38/52: Beauty Review – My Top 5

I like trying out new skin care products but there are a few trustworthy products that I have been repeatedly buying and like sharing with others. Here are my top 5:

Banila Co. Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm

This was the first oil cleanser that I used and has been my favourite since. I have tried using other oil cleanser but this is the only one that don’t break me out. Its a solid oil cleanser that melts on your hand and removes away your waterproof makeup and stubborn lipsticks like magic. I don’t use makeup remover beforehand and solely use this, its not sticky plus the new formula is improved with Vitamin E acetate, good for any skin. If you are starting on oil cleanser, give this a try, it is about £20 but worth it because the pot lasts for so long, I am in my third pot and have been using it for the past 2 years.

COSRX Low PH Good Morning Cleanser

Cosrx is a renowned brand in Korea for their skincare products for sensitive and acne prone skin, so if you have those then go for this brand. I am a big fan of their Low PH Good Morning Cleanser. It is a gentle cleanser for sensitive skin boasting a mildly acidic PH. (Note I have combination skin but this is great for all skin types). Don’t let the name fool you, you can use it for both the morning and night. It leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh, I use it with the oil cleanser above and its pretty effective in calming my hormonal acne.

Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Drop

Vitamin C is great for getting rid of acne scarring or dark spots and if you have those, you can rely on this product. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin types but everybody can use this. Klairs product are known for their use of natural ingredients and this doesn’t disappoint. I have used this religiously and have seen improvement in my skin tone but mind you, with vitamin C, you need to place this serum in a cool place, preferably your fridge because it is pure vitamin C and they do go off (it changes to slight brown and gives off a smell) if stored near sunlight, also lather on a good sunscreen when using this product as your skin gets more sensitive in the sun.

Innisfree – Jeju Orchid Eye Cream

Skin around the eye is sensitive and needs to be treated differently, if like me, you have dark pigmentation and laughter lines, you can minimize it using an eye cream and Innisfree Orchid Eye Cream is a miracle in a jar,the orchid exilir in it has excellent anti aging properties that helps to protect skin and make it glow. This is really expensive if buying at RRP and the discounted price still gets you at £20 but its worth every penny and it lasts longer.

MISSHA – All-around Safe Block Waterproof Sun Milk SPF50+ PA+++

I’ve already talked about this product before on my sunscreen review but this product easily is my top 5 products to use as its great for Asian tan skin. Just to note that it does leave a white cast but it does slowly blends in and you can wear it with your foundation on top of it.

Note: Before buying any skincare products, read the ingredients properly and reviews to see if its suitable. If you buy it and end up causing irritation, cease use immediately.

Let me know if you have any favorite skin care products I need to look into.

20/52: Beauty Review – 3 Favourites for Travel

I have been travelling on weekend breaks lately so I got to try out a few travel friendly products I meant to try out in ages and are now my favourite things to have for anytime.

Neogen Fresh Green Tea Cleansing Stick

Its a facial soap on a stick, so you can easily take it across customs without having to separate it out as liquid (please ask if you are unsure because some airports I’ve been to would like to separate it out). Neogen is a popular brand that is known for their natural ingredients products that are great for sensitive skin. The green tea cleansing stick contains green tea seed oil and green tea leaves which is a known ingredients to revitalize skin, this can be bought from Amazon and is about £20 which is expensive but is worth it because it last long and is great for cleansing out waterproof makeup, this also acts as a double cleansing and you wouldn’t need a cleansing oil.

JAYJUN – JC Refine to Shine 3 Step – Real Water Brightening Mask

This is a game changer product if you do weekend travels a lot. Its a 3 step product which contains a cleansing foam, serum and a mask so you don’t have to overload your beauty bag with different products when you have these. These are also on the pricier side but you get 10 packets and you can get your money worth if you travel a lot. I bought the Brightening Mask (not to confuse with bleaching – these are completely unrelated to each other, brightening and whitening products improves your skin tone, not change it). You can buy this on Amazon and there are other products you can try out as well.

Kao – Megrhythm Steam Warm Eye Mask

You might have seen this on social media but these eye masks are everything. After a long day travelling or even on the planes, you can pop these eye mask, it heats up and soothes the eyes. Momo liked it a lot when we went on our weekend trip because its relaxes you instantly plus it contains lavender and oils such as chamomile and ginger (please be aware that they do have scent). I got these from yesstyle on sale and it was 60% off around £10 so just keep an eye out for it if you want to try them out and let me tell you, you won’t regret it.

7/52: 5 Sites to buy Korean beauty products in UK

Since last year when Korean beauty exploded onto the UK scene, I became fascinated with it and  I have been following the 10 steps Korean skincare routine (not religiously) ever since and trying out different products from different brands. I have been searching for places to buy products at a reasonable price and have a list of websites I usually go back to buying from. Here are 5 of the websites I’ve used or found , I’ll do a pro(o) and con(x) for each of them, so you know what to lookout for. Let me know of any other websites where you guys buy asian beauty products from coz I love checking them out.

I stumbled upon the site when I was searching for some Japanese beauty brands. It’s a website with a huge online offering of products such as beauty, fashion and lifestyle from all across Asia.

(o) The prices are cheaper compared to other sites and sometimes on sale, you can get products for up to 60% off the retail price
(o) Get free shipping for orders over £25
(o) Description can vary on different products but are in english and have images on them
(o)They have a huge range of korean beauty brands such as CosRx, Innisfree, Missha, Etude House and so on and it’s great place to buy products to test out
(x) With all online shop, be careful in choosing products, always research or look at reviews before buying
(x) They are based in Hongkong and they don’t have all stock in hand so with some of the products, they have a waiting period (as they get these products from the supplier first), so the delivery extend from about 7 to 30 days, depending on the product. Please check the shipping estimation before you order

Cult Beauty

If you are not only looking for Korean beauty products but all the cult beauty products people rave about, you might be able to find it on Cult Beauty.

(o) For Korean beauty products, you can get Mizon, 3CE, Thank you farmer to a name a few
(o) Shipping is fast, it usually takes about 5 to 7 days and they offer free UK delivery over £15
(o) Detailed description, how to use and reviews section
(o) Great to buy makeup as they carry brands such as Huda Beauty, Charlotte Tilbury and Limecrime
(x) Price wise, it is relatively expensive compared to Yesstyle
(x) They don’t have extensive range of Korean beauty products but do carry a wide range of brands from all over the world

Recently, I have noticed more Korean brands being on Amazon, if you do a quick search for it, you can find a number or products such as face mask and cleansers.

(o) I usually get Klairs, Neogen and face mask from Amazon- good for beginners who is getting into the 10 step skincare
(o) For prime members, this is a plus, you can get some of the products within the next day, great when you run out of the product
(x) Be mindful of some products, as usual check the reviews and the seller – I usually get Klairs product from Wishtrend on Amazon
(x) Not that extensive range of products

Selfridges have been stocking some Korean beauty brands such as Dr Jart+, Missha, Neogen, Skin79.

(o) You can get the products in store and can have the look and feel option
(o) Reliable delivery option and returns (with beauty products, I think you can only return products in their original condition, check before you buy)
(x) Price point is higher (£5 for a face mask!!)

Beauty and Seoul

For complete beginners, I found the perfect site to shop from, Beauty and Seoul founded by Maree has curated a shop full of favourite brands that you can rely on to start your Korean skincare routine.

(o) All products are suitable for beginners – but please do read out the ingredients and review if you are unsure
(o) Prices are reasonable
(o) Based in UK, so delivery takes about 2 -3 days on standard delivery, free shipping over £40
(o) Site is easy to navigate around, I like that there is a link to skin concern and the products that you can use
(x) Limited number of brands but I don’t mind this as with huge range, you can get confused
(x) Most of the favourite products do get out of stock – so you have to get it before it goes
