48/52: The Roundabout

..round & round we go, we are back to the end of the year reflection, self reflecting on goals and future plans make me anxious & tired & sickly, I get irritated easily, everything frustrates me and people say to blame the weather but I am so done with this merry go round way of life where I end up at the same place over and over again.

12/52: Beauty Review- Face Sunscreens

Everybody needs to get on board wearing sunscreens everyday whether its sunny or not. We all know that Ultra Violet rays from the sun damages skin and there are two types of that can penetrate through the skin: long wave UVA and short wave UVB. The UVA penetrates through the skin deepest layer and exposure to it causes permanent ageing and increase the risk of skin cancer while the UVB hits the outer layer of the skin and causes sun burn and all sunscreens are made to protect from both.

I have been using face sunscreen  everyday for a year now and I can visibly see differences in regards to my complexion. If you are buying sunscreen, you need to make sure they provide appropriate protection, here is a general idea of the ratings used on products.

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) refers to the sunscreen ability to shield from the UVB rays and is a measure of the time it would take for a person to start getting red if he or she was not wearing sunscreen. Higher the SPF, the longer it shields you from the sun rays and higher the amount it blocks but it is advisable to reapply sunscreen every 2 to 4 hours.

Another rating is the PA factor which simply means the Protection Grade of UVA rays. This is based on the Persistent Pigment Darkening (PPD) reaction reading at 2-4 hours of sun exposure as is often labelled as PA+, PA++, PA+++ with the more plus sign the more protection.

I have a naturally tan asian combination skin (oily on the T-zone and dry on the cheeks) and I go for SPF 50 and PA+++ sunscreens as I feel like they give me the highest protection and to prevent sun spots as I get them easily. I have tried a few sunscreen (they can be applied on the face and body) over the year and here is my thoughts on 3 of them.

Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream Plus, SPF 50, £32 for 50ml

(o) It not only protects from the UV rays but shields your skin from air pollutants, which is good thing when you are working in the city.
(o) It feels light and not oily at all on the skin, it does last longer. You might need to reapply mid-day but depends on where you are.
(x) It is expensive, £32 for 50ml but I’ve found out that all sunscreens are expensive, you invest in what you get.

You can easily get this from: All Beauty, Boots, John Lewis (prices may vary)

Missha All Around Safe Block Waterproof Sun Milk, SPF 50+ PA+++, £16 for 40ml

(o) This is one of my favourite, its not a lotion rather a milky liquid so its light and not oily at all.
(o) Smooth application on skin but mind you, it does leave a white cast if you are tanner.
(o) It is waterproof, a big plus but it can dry easily so its advisable to reapply after few hours.
(o) Cheaper compared to others and last longer
(x) You need to order it online (I order from yesstyle) as its not yet available in the UK.

You can get this from: Yesstyle & Amazon (I am not sure about the shipping and product details from Amazon, so please review before you buy)

Thank You Farmer Water Sun Cream, SPF 50+ PA+++, £24 for 50ml

(o) This is a good sunscreen with added moisturiser.
(o) Light water based texture but the only downside for me was it got oily on my T-zone as the day went. I think it would be great for dry skin but please read the ingredients before you buy.
(x) It has a slight scent which I don’t mind but for people who prefer fragrance less product, then you might want to stay away from this.

You can easily get this from: Cult Beauty, Yesstyle  (note: Yesstyle sometimes have this on 60% off!)

If you are thinking of getting a daily sunscreen, please read the ingredients and reviews for the product, even if you are staying indoors, it is advisable to wear it as the rays can get through to the windows. Let me know if you have any sunscreen you recommend.

1/52: Hello 2018!

2017, to be honest was not the best of year, as with all the years, there were good things and bad things but the bad overshadowed the good. There are things I would like to change so its a fresh start in 2018.

If I look back over the year, the 12 highlights above clearly shows that I was happy travelling and trying out new things, and thats what I am gonna do more of. I was in such a negative bubble all year long that I completely forgot what I had to work towards; I am not gonna say it’s gonna be a different year, I only have one simple goal in mind and that is : “To be mindful of the present”, not to regret the past nor to overthink the future. Simply gonna work towards being present at all times & appreciating the small things.

In order to compile memories and my thoughts, I am gonna be journalling every Sunday with different topics so come with me on this adventure..
